This week's song is an old American folk ballad, called "Oh my darling, Clementine". It's a very sad song about a miner and his daughter. Every child in England knows this song!
I can't find a good video but I will post one when I do.
Here are the lyrics:
In a cavern, in a canyon,
Excavating for a mine
Dwelled a miner forty niner
And his daughter Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever
Oh my darling, Clementine.
Drove she ducklings to the water
Every morning just at nine,
Hit her foot against a splinter,
Fell into the foaming brine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever
Oh my darling, Clementine.
Ruby lips above the water,
Blowing bubbles, soft and fine,
But, alas, I was no swimmer,
So I lost my Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever
Oh my darling, Clementine.
Then the miner forty niner,
He began to peak and pine,
Thought he ought to join his daughter
Now he's with his Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever
Oh my darling, Clementine.
